Black Mountains Archaeology Ltd / Archaeoleg Mynydd Du Cyf was started by Richard Lewis in 2017. Richard has extensive experience delivering a wide range of archaeological projects. He spent the last fifteen years working for the Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust Ltd, where for nine years he ran the very successful commercial side of the organisation.
Richard has been a full Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA) since 2007 and is fully committed to maintaining the high professional Standards and Codes of the Chartered Institute. Richard also undertakes Registered Archaeological Organisation (RAO) inspections on behalf of CIfA.
Richard’s research interests include the study of lithic technology (flint tools) and prehistoric landscapes, particularly funerary and ritual monuments and their setting. He is a member of the Lithics Studies Society. Richard has a special interest in Industrial Archaeology, particularly the iron and coal industries and the legacy they have left on the landscape. In his spare time Richard enjoys presenting archaeological talks to schools and local societies.
